Post Graduate Programmes in Planning 2010 at CEPT University,Ahmedabad
Introduction: CEPT University is a leading institution offering undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the area of Natural and Built Environment. The Faculty of Planning and Public Policy was established in 1972, with focus on sustainable development of human settlements. The Programmes offered at the Faculty aim to improve the quality of life of the urban and rural populace through better access to employment opportunities, infrastructure services and housing. The Faculty of Planning and Public Policy is a full member of the Asian Planning School’s Association (APSA).
Acadmic Programmes: The Faculty of Planning and Public Policy offers the following seven Two-Year Post Graduate Programmes:
1. URBAN AND REGIONAL PLANNING emphasizes a multi-disciplinary approach focusing on spatial, social, economic and environmental issues related to human habitat in urban, rural and regional contexts.
2. ENVIRONMENTAL PLANNING focuses on rational and scientific decision-making for planned actions in different human activities compatible with the objectives of Sustainable Development.
3. HOUSING programme encompasses Policy and Programme analysis, Land use Planning, Housing Finance, Urban Infrastructure, Housing Market, Housing Design & Technology and Real Estate Planning and Management.
4. INFRASTRUCTURE PLANNING responds to the emerging need for Infrastructure Professionals in the country by combining technical, managerial, financial as well as socio-economic issues.
5. INDUSTRIAL AREA PLANNING AND MANAGEMENT focuses on Planning, Designing, Developing and Managing Industrial areas. The course aims to acquaint the students in various technical, theoretical and practical aspects of Industrial Area Planning and Management.
6. URBAN TRANSPORT PLANNING AND MANAGEMENT programme provides students with a working knowledge of the theory, policy, law, research, principles and practices required for planning and management of urban transportation facilities. Opportunities for specializations in the sub-fields of planning and management of
urban transport will be provided.
7. RURAL PLANNING & MANAGEMENT aims to integrate the various issues to develop comprehensive strategies for rural planning and management. This programme also offers policy perspectives for planning and management of rural
areas and preparation of action plans at the micro level.
Eligibility: Minimum qualifications required for admission to the Post Graduate Programmes are:
A) Minimum of 50% aggregate marks in the below mentioned degree programmes is essential for the general category and 45% aggregate marks for SC/ ST/ OBC category candidates.
B) GATE qualified candidates are accorded priority.
Scholarship: A monthly scholarship, as per the Government of India rules, is awarded to candidates qualified in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) and to candidates qualified in the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) examination conducted by the University Grants Commission’s (UGC).
Placements: The Faculty of Planning and Public Policy graduates find excellent placement opportunities in Government, Non-Government Organizations and Private Consulting Companies like, Knight Frank, Lea Associates, Feedback Ventures, Geodesic Technology Pvt. Ltd, Urban Management Centre (UMC), IL&FS, Scott Wilson, GIFTCL and Urban Mass Transport System (UMTS).
Admission Procedure: Details on Admission and application form can be obtained from the Administration, CEPT University, Ahmedabad from March 31, 2010 onwards. The information can also be downloaded from the website www.spcept.ac.in or www.cept.ac.in. Completed application form along with requisite Bank Draft for Rs. 750/- (Rupees Seven Hundred Fifty only) drawn in favour of “CEPT University” payable at Ahmedabad, should be submitted on or before 5:00 p.m., June 1, 2010. Admission Test and Interviews would be held at the following centres.
