PhD scholarship at Vattenfall Research and Development 2010 at Vattenfall, Denmark

Introduction: Vattenfall Research and Development AB is a centre of competence for the R&D work performed by one the most exciting energy groups in Northern Europe. Vattenfall Research and Development conducts development projects in the Nordic countries, Poland and Germany, and has a total of some 220 employees. Our operations are focused on Älvkarleby and Stockholm in Sweden, Berlin in Germany and Fredericia in Denmark and we have a branch office in Edinburgh in Scotland, close to university relations. We are in an interesting phase of development with a growing internationalisation of our activities.

Vattenfall Research and Development now offers a PhD scholarship in: Assessment of dynamic flow, pressure and geo-mechanical behaviour of a CO2 storage complex.

Applicants are invited for a PhD scholarship in the area of flow simulation, pressure development and geo-mechanical effects related to Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS). The Danish Council for Strategic Research will fund the PhD position; in the research project Environmental Technology for Geological Storage of Carbon Dioxide running 2010-2013.
Eligibility: For this position we seek a PhD candidate with a Master’s degree in reservoir engineering, rock physics, geo-mechanics or a related field. Experience with laboratory investigations as well as numerical modelling will be advantageous. We expect good communication skills, both verbally and in writing. The position is open to both international and Danish candidates.

Location: The PhD project will be carried out at Centre for Energy Resources Engineering (CERE), DTU Environment (www.env.dtu.dk) in close collaboration with GEUS (Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland) (www.geus.dk). The candidate will spend some time at the Vattenfall office in Copenhagen working with reservoir modelling, and some time at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh.

Approval and Enrolment: The PhD candidate will be enrolled at the Technical University of Denmark, DTU Environment and be part of the large and diverse group of PhD students there. The full scholarship will be for an enrolment period of three years. The scholarships for the PhD degree are subject to academic approval, and the candidates will be enrolled in the Life Science PhD programme at DTU.
