Distance Learning :
The Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) is one more feather in the cap of the Pondicherry University. The University, in the academic year 1995-96, entered into the field of offering distance education to cater to the needs of the student community. It serves the citizens who have been denied the opportunity to continue their studies earlier. The programmes offered by the Directorate are innovative and job-oriented. The programmes such as MBA General with four specialization in Marketing, Finance, International Business & Human Resource Management are some of the very emerging programmes to be launched through Distance mode.
The curriculum of the programmes have been designed in such a way so that the course content is the most up-to-date and stimulates every aspiring manager to enroll.
Its uniqueness lies in the Personal Contact Programmes which are conducted regularly and systematically for all the programmes. Experienced Faculty from various Universities/Industries is drawn to deliver lectures so that the target audience receives the maximum benefit and derive academic inputs from these Personal Contact Programmes.
At the end of every Personal Contact Programme, the students are asked to evaluate and give a feed back on the Programme conducted so that an objective assessment of the programmes is made. Course materials are prepared assiduously by experienced Faculty who has made a mark in their area of specializations.
The Directorate has opened Personal Contact Programme centres in some important cities spread throughout the length and breadth of this country, starting from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. Some of the remote centres are Jammu, Port Blair and Guwahati. These centres have been chosen in such a way that the student community throughout the country is given ample opportunity to improve their academic credentials and job prospects.
Distance learning programmes offered by the Directorate :
Admission is open to persons all over India. The medium of instruction for all programmes except Tamil and Hindi is English only. Personal Contact Programme Classes (PCP) is compulsory. The MBA programmes alone are run on semester pattern. The Academic year of the Directorate of Distance Education is from July to June. The Directorate of Distance Education offers the following PG programmes.

Admission Procedure:
The application form with information brochure with postal charge can be obtained on payment of Rs.150/- by Demand Draft, drawn in favour of “The Finance Officer, Pondicherry University, Puducherry”, payable at Pondicherry by sending it to the Director, Directorate of Distance Education, Pondicherry University, Puducherry–605014, with a requisition and two self addressed slips. Candidates possessing requisite qualification or awaiting results are eligible to apply.
Applicants must go through the information brochure carefully before filling the application form and enter correctly the course code and name of the programme.
The Application will be summarily rejected if there is any discrepancy between the information in the Application form and the supporting documents. The name of the applicant, date of birth and qualification will be considered as material particulars in this context.
Admission cannot be claimed as a matter of right.
Admission is open to all those who posses the prescribed qualification. All admissions are provisional, subject to verification of the required documents.
Admission can be availed either through postal admission mode or online admission mode. Candidates seeking admission for any programme offered by the Directorate need not submit the Transfer Certificate / Migration Certificate.
Postal Admission:
The filled-in application form, along with Identity Card duly filled in and original certificates should be sent along with the Demand Draft / copy of challan for the tuition fees and other fees of the programme opted by Registered Post / Speed Post to the Directorate.
Original Certificates and Attested (Xerox) Copies of the following certificates should be enclosed with the application form and Demand Draft.
• Statement of Marks of the qualifying Examinations. • Degree/Provisional Certificate.
(Recent passport size photograph duly attested by a Gazetted Officer should be pasted on the application form in the space provided for it. Further, a stamp size photograph signed by the candidate should be pasted in the space provided in the Identity Card)
Candidates seeking admission for all the courses should send their original Degree Certificate / Provisional Certificate and Statement of Marks, in water-proof covers. These shall be sent only through a registered post.
All the original certificates will be returned after scrutiny. Candidates who do not get back their certificates within a month from the date of receipt by the Directorate may write to the Grievance Cell of the Directorate of Distance Education.
Candidates awaiting their results must produce the Statement of Marks/ Degree Certificate as proof of fulfilling the prescribed eligibility criteria before 31.10.2008 failing which, the provisional admission already granted, will be cancelled.
