DIPLOMA IN MECHANICAL ENGINEERING (DME) JANUARY 2009 SESSION
Eligibility Criteria:
(A) (i) 10th Pass with 55% marks or (ii) 10th Pass with ITI Certificate or (iii) 10th Pass with Certificate in Motorcycle Service and Repair (CMSR) of IGNOU. And
(B) Candidates should be employed in Central or State level Manufacturing Industries or in Public or in Private Sector Manufacturing Industries or in Other related organizations employing similar manpower or Self-employed in Equivalent Capacity.
The Prospectus and application form can be obtained from Programme Coordinator, (DME), Visvesveraya Bhawan (Block C), SOET, IGNOU, Maidan Garhi, New Delhi-110068 (also available at IGNOU website), in person on payment of RS.100/- in cash or through post by sending an IPO or demand draft of RS.150/- in favour of IGNOU and payable at New Delhi. DIPLOMA IN MECHANICAL ENGINEERING
IGNOU has come forward to meet the requirement and provide opportunity to lakhs of manufacturing/production personnel to move ahead in their careers while on the job. This Diploma aims to incorporate a blend of practical aspects with academics in the curriculum. The module is flexible and shall be as per the site conditions and time availability of the personnel. The study centres are being established at various locations depending upon the strength of the participants.
The Diploma programme in Mechanical Engineering seeks to provide more accessible and quality education and training to manufacturing/production personnel to meet the real work needs of manufacturing/production industry and prepare them for the changes in techniques, technologies, markets and employment patterns. This programme has been designed to enhance quality and productivity of manufacturing/production personnel.
The Diploma in Mechanical Engineering is equivalent to Diploma offered by the Technical Education System and is equivalent to any of the similar diplomas offered by any other University/Polytechnic in India.

The broad objectives of this programme are to :
· To offer need based and tailormade academic programme for the specific need of supervisory level manpower engaged in manufacturing/production.
· To upgrade and modernize the technical know-how of those engaged in the manufacturing/production related activities apart from the fresh entrants to the manufacturing/production industry desirous of advancing their careers in manufacturing/production Industry.

B.Sc. (NAUTICAL SCIENCE) – FEBRUARY 2009 SESSION
Indira Gandhi National Open University and the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS), Mumbai announce admissions in B.Sc. (Nautical Science) programme commencing on 2nd February 2009. This programme of IGNOU has been developed in collaboration with the DGS and is aimed at orienting the cadets for the equivalent life at sea by providing vocationally oriented education and training so as to help them become officers in the Merchant Navy.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
(A) Educational
(1) 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) with not less than 55% marks in PCM aggregate from a recognized Board OR with Physics as an individual subject in any one of the years of B. Sc with not less than 50% marks in the final year of B.Sc. from a recognized University provided that the candidate must have passed 10+2 examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) from a recognized Board OR B.E./B.Tech. Degree from I.I.T or from a college/ University recognized by AICTE/ UGC/ DEC. And
(2) Should have passed with not less than 50% marks in English as a subject, at either 10th or 12th standard or in the Degree course, conducted by a Board or University.
[Note: Those appearing in educational eligibility qualifying examination are also eligible to apply provided they meet all the eligibility criteria on or before the commencement of the programme and produce the certificates to that effect.]
(B) Age (As on 2nd February 2009): Not more than 25 years. The age limit is relaxable by 2 years for female candidates and 5 years for SC/ST candidates.
(C) Physical and Medical Standards: Medically fit as per the standards prescribed by M. S. Medical Examination Rules, 2000, and Eye sight: 6/6 in each eye without visual aids and normal colour vision.
[Note: The candidates are advised to get them medically examined so as to avoid any last minute embarrassment.]
Selection Procedure:
Candidates will be selected on the basis of an Entrance Test (OPENNET) to be held on 30th November, 2008. Reservation in number of seats shall be as prescribed by the Government of India rules. For further details please refer to the Student Handbook and Prospectus. The candidates who have been declared Qualified in OPENNET examination held on 15th June, 2008, should take admission as sponsored students or attend second round of counselling for allotment of Institute. Date of second round of counselling will be announced at http://www.ignou.ac.in.
Last Date of submission of Application to Registrar (SRD)-in-charge, IGNOU, New Delhi: 07th November 2008.
The Programme will be offered through selected Training Institutes approved by DGS and IGNOU. Details of these Institutes are available in the Students Handbook and Prospectus.
The Prospectus can be obtained from IGNOU headquarters, New Delhi on weekdays during working hours on payment of Rs.100/- in cash from 20th October, 2008. It can also be downloaded from IGNOU website i.e. http://www.ignou.ac.in from 07th October 2008 onwards. The filled-in Application form (Form-A) along with the requisite fee of Rs.500/- (Rs.600/- in case of downloaded forms) in the form of Demand Draft drawn in favour of IGNOU payable at Delhi should reach in an envelope super-scribed “Application form for B.Sc. 1. Applications are invited for the Entrance Examination for admission to LL.M Course-2008-09 in the Government Law Colleges at Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Kozhikode.
2. Eligibility for Admission
(i) Nativity: Applicant should be an Indian citizen of Kerala Origin.
(ii) Academic qualifications: Candidates who have passed the L.L.B. examination (5 year / 3 year course) of the Universities in Kerala or other Universities recognized by the Universities in Kerala as equivalent thereto are eligible for admission. Candidates appearing / appeared for the regular Final year LL.B. examination can also apply for the Entrance Examination. Such candidates become eligible for admission only if they produce the Provisional Degree / Degree Certificate of the qualifying examination and the mark lists of all parts of the qualifying examination at the time of Allotment of seats.
(iii) Age: There is no upper age limit for admission to LL. M Course.
3. Entrance Examination:
The Entrance Examination will be conducted at Thiruvananthapuram, on 08.11.2008 (Saturday). The Questions of the Entrance Examination will be of objective type. There shall be two papers each of 90 minutes duration from 9.30am to 11.00am and 11.30 am to 1.00pm. The questions shall be of the standard of LL.B Examination.
4. Application forms:
Application forms and Prospectus can be downloaded from the official website of Commissioner for Entrance Examinations at ‘ www.cee-kerala.org’
5. Last date and time for receipt of filled-in application forms Completed applications with all the documents should be forwarded to the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations, Housing Board Buildings, 5th Floor, Santhinagar, Thiruvananthapuram – 695 001 either by Registered post or by hand delivery so as to reach him before 5 pm on 23.10.2008.
Application should be accompanied by a Demand Draft for Rs.800/- for all category candidates, drawn on a Nationalized Bank, in favour of Commissioner for Entrance Examinations, payable at Thiruvananthapuram.
6. Late applications including those brought after 5 PM on 23.10.2008 will not be accepted. The Commissioner for Entrance Examinations will not be responsible for any postal delay. Incomplete, defective and wrongly addressed applications will be summarily rejected and no correspondence will be undertaken in this regard.
7. Candidates will not be allowed to include any information in the application form after the submission of the application under any circumstances.
8. Candidates must note that they have to obtain the required certificates in the body of the application form itself, wherever necessary. The certificates that are attached separately in the application form will not be considered.
9. The Allotment of seats to the course will be announced after the publication of the results of the Entrance examination. Individual memos will not be sent to candidates in this regard. All certificates in support of various claims preferred in the application form will have to be submitted at the time of Allotment. No extension of time will be granted for this.
10. The Entrance Examination and subsequent allotments will be based on the various provisions laid down in the prospectus, approved by Government. Candidates are directed to go through the various provisions in the Prospectus available in the Official web site of the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations at “ www.cee-kerala.org” before submitting their applications.

Indira Gandhi National Open University invites application for admission to one year ONLINE PG Diploma Programme in Acupuncture (PGDACP). This programme has been developed in collaboration with Institute of Acupuncture and Natural Medicines (IANM) New Delhi.

Launching of Online PG Diploma Programme in Acupuncture
Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) launched a new academic programme in the field of Acupuncture in collaboration with the Institute of Acupuncture & Natural Medicines (IANM) New Delhi, announced Prof. V. N. Rajasekharan Pillai, VC, IGNOU. The PG Diploma in Acupuncture will commence from November, 2008, he added.
The course is intended to strengthen the Acupuncture in general. It shall help graduates of different system of medicine to learn a new modality of therapy and utilize it for patient benefit in treating acute and chronic diseases. The programme can be completed in a minimum period of 1 year and a maximum period of 3 years and is available to the Medical graduates (Allopathy, Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha & Homeopathy)
For the first time a medical programme will be offered online with contact sessions for practical training. Internal assessment will be done through online tests / examination and term-end examination. Acupuncture is a traditional method of therapy which is very well recognized world over and well accepted by the people as it does not have any side effects. This method has been found to be useful in all types of diseases specially the chronic diseases. Moreover the cost of the treatment is less as compared to the other systems of medicine. Because of its broad based content the course will be of relevance to those aspiring to make a career in Acupuncture
The entire theoretical component will be online and for practical training, the doctor can opt for any of 8 centres in India nearer to him/her. These centres are located at New Delhi, Calcutta ( W.
