Nurturing Policy Makers
The two-year PGPPM, the first of its kind in India, is designed to equip mid-career civil servants, non-government officials and corporate professionals with concepts, skills and techniques relevant for formulationof public policy and for effecting strategic management of public systems. The programme has been conceived by the IIMB and implemented in collaboartion with the leading international institutions. Eminent academicians and select practioners share expertise on how to mobilize your intangible assets – talent, knowledge, relationship and reputation – to draw up a coherent strategy to meet the needs of the emerging global and national state of affairs. Pedagogy involves cross-continental perspectives on different domains like public and corporate management system, corporate social responsibility and public-rivate partnerships in social and human development.

Exciting Careers:
PGPPM alumni work in multiple settings. This includes national and international organizations, UN establishments, infrastructure financing institutions, public-private partnership systems and novel social sector projects. Institute facilitates placement for all eligible participants.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Post Graduate Programme in Public Policy & Management (PGPPM)

The two-year Post Graduate Programme in Public Policy and Management (PGPPM) of Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) has entered its sixth year. Catalyzed by the Government of India and UNDP in the year 2002, the PGPPM was conceived as a pioneering programme in public policy designed by India ’s leading business school. The programme presents an innovative and socially relevant approach to public policy, besides being power packed with path breaking insights about winning policy making and management strategies. Eminent academicians and practitioners from IIMB and overseas share inputs on how to mobilize participants’ intangible assets – talent, knowledge, relationship and reputation to draw up a coherent strategy to meet the needs of the emerging global and national arenas. PGPPM also allows participants’ the opportunity to specialize in a policy area of your choice. In the preceding five years, 119 participants belonging to the All India Services and Central Services Group “A” have successfully underwent the programme. Some of our alumni are on assignments in frontier areas such as Infrastructure Financing, Regulations, Public-Private Partnerships and in management of key Social Sector Projects. For government officials participation is sponsored by Department of Personnel and Training, Government of India.

PGPPM participants with requisite CGPAs have the option to pursue the Fellow Programme (Doctoral Programme) in the Institute. This opportunity has been availed by some of our successful participants belonging to All India Services and Central Services Group “A”.

With effect from 2008-2009 academic year, it is proposed to open the programme to eligible non-government participants as well.

PGPPM aims to enhance the competence of participants by:
Broadening awareness of the latest trends in policy approaches
Deepening conceptual, technical and analytical skills for public policy applications
Developing leadership skills for public policy
Creating a better understanding of the forces shaping the domestic and international environment for public policy
Providing opportunity for specialization in a field of choice
Broadening understanding of the latest trends in policy approaches
Providing opportunities to learn from alternative systems of public management based on comparative study of other countries
Enhancing awareness about the latest trends in national and international policy approaches
Academic Design

The first year of the PGPPM is residential with participants spending 9 months at IIMB and 7 weeks at the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, Syracuse , USA . The programme leads to the award of the Post Graduate Diploma in Public Policy and Management by IIMB. The non-residential component of the programme involves work relating to the PGPPM dissertation which participants carry out in their work environment.

A dissertation providing for an in-depth understanding of a chosen public policy issue

Eligibility Criteria:
The programme is open to officers of All India Services and Central Services Group “A”, Public Sector Undertakings and other Individual applicants subject to the eligibility conditions mentioned in the programme brochure.
