ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY :
Lalit Narayan Mithila University came into being on August 5, 1972, by an Ordinance/subsequently enacted through legislatures, with the name Mithila University, Darbhanga, to fulfill the long cherished desire and aspirations of the people of Mithila to have a genuine University promoting the cause of higher education in building up a sound and healthy Indian National. In February, 1975 after the sad and sudden demise of the Union Minister of Railways and an illustrious son of Mithila Late Pt. Lalit Narayan Mishra, the University was renamed as Lalit Narayan Mithila University.

THE B.ED. PROGRAMME :

The B.Ed. programme offered by Directorate of Distance Education is an innovative course. This course imparts teaching with the help of self-instructional material (SIM) alongwith information technology and personal contact programme (PCP). It develops understanding and competencies among the in-service teachers in providing effective teaching-learning process at the secondary stage. B.Ed. programme (distance mode) involves theoretical and practical aspects to develop the practicing teacher’s knowledge, reasoning and attitudes.
B.Ed. programme through distance mode is duly recognized by NCTE. This particular programme strengthens professional competency among in-service teachers, organizes learning experiences of school teachers, helps understand the nature of the learner and learning process, provides platform to acquire knowledge about various procedures techniques of evaluation, gives full sketch of school management, paves the way to develop competency for organizing instructional and student support activities and prepares a role model teacher for developing country like India to enhance socio-cultural, political and educational values.
MODE OF INSTRUCTION :
B.Ed. programme through distance mode is quite different from either full time and formal Course. The teaching is imparted through self-instructional material and also with the help of audio-visual programmes. Regular Counselling and practical activities are organized to facilitate teaching-learning process. The students of this course are required to submit assignments at the specified/ allotted study centres. The marks obtained in the assignments are displayed and accordingly students are advised to improve their quality with the help of counselors.
ELIGIBILITY :
In-service teachers of recognized primary, secondary and higher secondary schools with a Bachelor degree or a higher degree from any recognized University, two years full time teaching experience on temporary or permanent basis as Primary/Graduate/Post Graduate teacher in a primary, secondary, higher secondary school recognized by the Central or state Govt. or Union territory.
The experience certificate issued by the Principal must be enclosed with the application. The appearing candidates may also apply, but before taking final admission he/she will have to submit proof if passing the qualifying examination, otherwise his/her candidature will automatically stand cancelled.
MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION :
Medium of Instruction for B.Ed. Course (Distance Mode) will be English or Hindi. The candidates are required to exercise their option of medium of instruction in his/her application form.
DURATION OF THE COURSE :
The minimum period, required to complete the programme will be two years and the maximum period allowed for completion of this particular course will be four years. After four years, no candidate will be allowed to appear at the B.Ed. exam.
ENTRANCE TEST :
The entrance test is normally held during June/July every year. Hall Tickets will be provided to the candidates before 15 days of entrance test. Mere permission to take Entrance Test would not amount to acceptance of candidates eligibility for admission to B.Ed. programme. The final admission shall be subject to their merit in the entrance test and also production of proof of their eligibility along with original certificates and programme fee.
MASTER OF ARTS (EDUCATION) PROGRAMME :
The Master of Arts (Education) programme is an innovative course, which will provide learners exhaustive and more comprehensive knowledge/understanding of education. This programme would provide the learners to knowing how knowledge gets generated in the area of education and it will be helpful in acquiring higher level of specialization in specific aspects of education.
Master of Arts (Education) programme is aimed at developing professionals for effective participation in educational activity in different arena. M.A. (Education) programme emphasises both disciplinary and professional dimensions of education.

ELIGIBILITY :
i. Any Graduate or a Bachelor’s degree in Education or B.Ed. with 45% minimum marks on the basis of Entrance Test.
ii. B.Ed. (inservice teachers) direct admission on the basis of marks/merit.
Admission will be made through two streams :
(a) Entrance Test (for 250 seats) Two hundred fifty candidates will be selected through Entrance Test. The minimum educational qualification to apply is graduate with minimum 45% marks from a recognised University and equivalent examination recognised by L.N.Mithila University Darbhanga there to. Admission will be done strictly from merit list prepared on the basis of Entrance Test following the rule of reservation as per State Govt.
(b) Direct Admission (for 250 seats) : Two hundred fifty seats will be filled in by B.Ed. candidates having minimum two years continuous teaching experience working in recognised secondary Schools/Colleges. Such candidates will have to produce service certificate issued by the Head of the institutions. The candidates under this category will be admitted on the basis of marks obtained in B.Ed. examination/length of service (in case of tie) following the rule of reservation.
SCHEME OF ENTRANCE TEST :
The entrance test will be held on the date and time announced/communicated/displayed on notice board/website of DDE. The appearing candidates will be expected to be in the examination hall before half an hour of the commencement of the examination. No candidates will be allowed to appear in the examination who report after half an hour of the commencement of the examination.
ABOUT LIBRARY AND INFORMATION SCIENCE :
The education in Bachelor of Library and Information Science is a professional education and it is a specialized field of human training. It has a concrete content as well as objective in the same way as the training received by any technical man. The teaching of Library and Information Science imparts skilled knowledge and gives systematic body of knowledge and specialized techniques, which are useful in Library and Information operations and services which constitute the branch/discipline of Library and Information Science.
The primary objective of education of Library and Information Science is to train the candidates in matters pertaining to human resource, knowledge and information. It provides highest wisdom in promoting the utilization of knowledge and information for the benefit of mankind. The teaching of Library and information Science has been started recently through distance mode of learning and in order to meet the challenging and increasing need for providing teaching in Library and Information Science, the Directorate of Distance Education, L.N. Mithila University, Darbhanga has launched this programme from the academic session 2007-08.
ADMISSION AND SELECTION PROCEDURE
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION :
Graduates of any discipline with 45% from a recognized University/Institutions/Deemed Universities are eligible for admission to B. Lib. & Information Science course. Other equivalent degrees recognized by the University may be considered separately by the authorities or Graduate securing second class with two years experience in Library/Information centers of state/National repute or Graduate with Diploma in Library Science.
APPLICATION :
Application for admission to B. Lib. & Information Science must be submitted in the prescribed format only. Application form and prospectus can be obtained in person from the counter of the Directorate Office on payment of Rs. 400/- (Four hundred only) payable through Bank Draft in favour of LNMU Distance Education fund A/c payable at Darbhanga by post by remitting a D.D. of Rs. 450/- (Four hundred fifty) only drawn in favour of the LNMU Distance Education fund A/c along with a written request addressed to the Director, Directorate of Distance Education, L.N. Mithila University, Darbhanga.
The candidates are advised to submit self attested photocopies of mark-sheets and other certificates along with the application form and original certificates/documents shall have to be produced at the time of admission. The candidates desirous of seeking admission in B.Lib & Information Science are advised to obtain stamped receipts/acknowledgement from the counter while submitting application form in the office by hand. Applications for admission to the course must reach the Director, Directorate of Distance Education, L.N. Mithila University, Darbhanga before the closing date mentioned in the advertisement.
SELECTION :
The admission shall be strictly on merit basis.
Admission to Bachelor of Library Science shall be made according to the reservation policy of the Govt. of Bihar.
Such candidates shall not be admitted, who, in the opinion of the Vice-Chancellor is not fit for admission in the best interest of the DDE, LNMU.
Such candidates shall not be admitted who has not submitted the application within the specified period, time and date, or who does not get himself enrolled on being selected for admission within the specified time except when the delay is condoned by the Vice-Chancellor, on the basis of reasonable ground.

FEE STRUCTUE :
The total charge for the course is Rs.7,500/- (Seven Thousand five hundred) only. The total fee is payable in one installment at the time of admission. The fee structure of Rs. 7,500 (Seven thousand five hundred) is the same for all categories of candidates. Fee is payable through DD in favour of LNMU Distance Education fund A/c. Examination fee is not included in the programme fee.
MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION :
The medium of instruction will be Hindi/English. The enrolled students may take the examination either through Hindi or English medium.
MASTER IN LIBRARY AND INFORMATION SCIENCE (MLIS)

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION :
The basic qualification for admission to this course is a Bachelor OF Library and Information Science (BLIS).
APPLICATION :
Application for admission in Master in Library and Information Science (MLIS) must be submitted in the prescribed from only. Application form can be had from the counter of the Directorate Office on payment of Rs. 400/- (four hundred only) payable through Bank Draft in favour of Distance Education fund A/c, L.N. Mithila University, Darbhanga. It can also be had by Post by remitting Rs. 450/- (four hundred fifty only) by a Bank Draft drawn in favour of the Distance Education fund A/c, L.N. Mithila University payable at Darbhanga along with a written request.
The candidates are advised to submit Photostat self attested copies of mark sheets and other certificates along with the application form. Original certificates/documents shall have to be produced at the time of admission for verification. The candidates desirous of seeking admission in M.Lib. & Information Science are advised to obtain stamped receipt/acknowledgement from the counter while submitting application form in the office by hand. Applications for admission to the course must reach the Director, Directorate of Distance Education, L.N. Mithila University, Darbhanga before the closing date announced by DDE. Late application in no case, will be entertained.

P.G.DIPLOMA IN JOURNALISM AND MASS COMMUNICATION

Eligibility:
Any Honours graduate in any faculty is eligible for admission in the new introduced course of P.G. Diploma in Journalism and Mass Communication.
No candidate shall be admitted to this course unless he/ she has passed B.A./B,Sc/B.Com from a recognized University or a degree recognized by L.N. Mithila University, Darbhanga with at least 50% marks in aggregate.
Preference in Admmission :
Preference will be given to the working journalist and a working certificate issued by the competent authority is to be attached with the application form.
Application for Admission :
The desirous candidate seeking admission to this course must submit his/her application in prescribed format only.
Application form may be had from the Directorate of Distance Education, L.N. Mithila University, Darbhanga on payment of Rs170/ (one hundred fifty only) by bank draft of any nationalized bank in favour of Director, Directorate of Distance Education, L.N. Mithila University payable at Darbhanga or remitting a bank draft of Rs220/-(two hundred twenty only) in favour of Director, Directorate of Distance Education, L.N. Mithila University payable at Darbhanga by post.
Required documents:
The candidates are advised to enclose only attested photocopies of mark sheets and other certificates along with the application form.
No original certificates/ mark sheets are to be enclosed, it is to be submitted/ produced at the time of interview and admission.
General Instruction:
The candidates submitting their application forms at the D.D.E. office by hand are advised to obtain the stamped acknowledgement from the counter clerck.
Application forms for admission to the course completely filled in must reach the Office of the Directorate of Distance Education, L.N. Mithila University, Darbhanga before the closing date (as mentioned in the advertisement). In no case the application form received after closing date will be entertained. Be sure that your application must reach D.D.E. in time. No candidate will be admitted who has not applied for admission within the specified period and time, or who on being selected does not get himself/ herself enrolled within the specified time.
Selection Procedure:
The applications received before dead line fixed by D.D.E. will be scrutinized and a selection list will be prepared strictly according to merit on the basis of marks obtained at Bachelor examination. The final selection list will be announced after interview adding the marks obtained in the interview.

Examination
The examination will be conducted by Director L.N. Mithila University, Darbhanga, which will also finalize the examination programme for the said examination and requisite fees for its conduct.
Any enrolled candidate will be admitted to the examination of P.G. Diploma course in Journalism and Mass Communication, if he/ she has completed the course of study and assignment given to him/ her for one academic year through distance mode from D.D.E., L.N.M.U.

Study Materials:
If the lessons are ready then it will be delivered to the students hand to hand on the day of admission, otherwise the lessons will be dispatched by post. It is advisable to be vigilant while writing the postal address of the candidates. The study materials will be available in English but the students have choice of English/Hindi in the examination.

ABOUT THE DIRECTORATE OF DISTANCE EDUCATION :
The Directorate of Distance Education, Lalit Narayan Mithila University, Kameshwaranagar, Darbhanga was established in the year 1998 with the objective of imparting flexible, diversified and open system of higher education through distance mode of learning for all age group & sex who are either employed/semi employed/unemployed/otherwise handicapped residing in remote areas without any access to higher education and unable to attend regular classes.
The concept of education through correspondence is the development of 20th century in India. It is known as a system of non-formal education and fulfills the overgrowing aspirations of such men and women who otherwise fail to attend to acquire higher education for their mental growth and equipping themselves with knowledge and skill for obtaining higher degree for better opportunity in career. It meets the requirements of the developing country like India where population is increasing. The education through distance mode of learning fulfils the desire of those students who are unable to attend regular class-room teaching. The distance education, promoted by Govt. of India, has motto to impart the education to the door steps of the learners on the pattern of IGNOU, U.S.A. and U.K. Directorate of Distance Education L.N. Mithila University, Darbhanga provides facilities of instructional materials through correspondence for all such students/candidates, who can not join regular course of teaching. The institution provides opportunity to the candidates to enhance their knowledge and obtain academic qualifications. The main motto behind it is learn while earn.
Under the aegis of this Directorate B.Ed. Programme under Distance Mode for in-service Teachers was started from the academic session 2005-07 in collaboration with IGNOU. It is a matter of great pleasure to note that NCTE has approved the B.Ed. programme to be conducted independently by Directorate of Distance Education, L.N. Mithila University, Darbhanga from the academic session 2007-09 with an intake capacity of 500.
