Sauve Scholars Program 2009Â – Montreal
Introduction: The Sauvé Scholars Program was established by the Jeanne Sauvé Foundation, under the direction of the late Jeanne Sauvé’s son, Jean-François Sauvé, to implement its mission to develop the leadership potential of promising youth from around the world.
The Sauvé Scholars Program has welcomed 87 Scholars from 44 different countries. Launched in 2003, the Sauvé Scholars Program has evolved from the Jeanne Sauvé Youth Foundation, created in 1991 by the late Jeanne Sauvé, the first woman to serve as Governor General of Canada, the country’s Head of State and Commander-in-Chief.
The Right Honourable Jeanne Sauvé was a woman of strength and vision. Throughout her distinguished career as youth activist, journalist, Minister of the Crown, Speaker of the House of Commons and ultimately Governor General, she remained at the forefront of the most socially progressive issues of her day, and was deeply committed to advancing the role of young leaders.
Eligibility: The Sauvé Scholars Program exists for young leaders (30 years old or less) from across the globe who want to change the world. The Scholars are chosen above all on the basis of criteria laid out by the Right Honourable Jeanne Sauvé:
* Initiative
* Motivation
* Vision
* Imagination
* Demonstrated communication skills
* Awareness of international and domestic issues
* A strong desire to effect change
How To Apply: Applicants to the Sauvé Scholars Program must complete the Basic Information (Short) Form. Please ensure that you have filled in all fields, or the process will not continue. Nomination Form – All applicants to the Sauvé Scholars Program must be nominated by someone — not related to you — who knows you in a professional, academic, and/or personal capacity. The Nomination Form is an essential component of the Application package and must be completed by your Nominator. You should not wait until you have completed the Application Form and package, but may forward the Nomination Form immediately to your Nominator. Instructions for completion are included in the Nomination Form, however it is essential that you inform your Nominator of your Personal File Number, as it must also appear on the Nomination Form.
Selection Procedure: Should you have any reason to believe that you may have difficulty in obtaining the necessary Canadian visa (e.g., if any prior application has been refused), you are urged to inform the Selection Committee prior to participating in the second (selection) stage of the process. In the second stage of the process, the Candidates who have been short listed will submit the following documents in support of their candidacy: Three Letters of Recommendation (You may also ask your Nominator to submit a Letter of Recommendation). Official Academic Transcript(s). Examples of Leadership. Published Works. As you will have less than one month to assemble and submit the required documentation, you are advised to make preliminary plans to obtain all necessary documents, and to secure agreement of the individuals who will write your Letters of Recommendation.
